All our innovation projects
For the past decade, the utility company has been at the forefront of innovation and development in climate and environmental matters.
Reykjavík Energy is working on a variety of innovation projects in collaboration with its subsidiaries and external parties, with an emphasis on value-added solutions that promote better resource utilisation, carbon neutrality, and increased energy production.
Active innovation projects include projects that focus on creating value from by-products across the entire Reykjavík Energy group. Examples include the utilisation of sand and grease from wastewater, the utilisation of silica from the geothermal water of Orka náttúrunnar's power plants, and the utilisation of geothermal water after it has been used to produce hot water for the district heating system in the capital area.
The utility is also an active participant in various research and innovation projects that have received grants from, for example, the European Union and Geothermica.
